The healthy properties and uses of sesame oil

Sesame oil extracted from seeds is a rich source of polyunsaturated fatty acids and active minor components.. The healthy properties and uses of sesame oil.

Sesame oil is not only a delicious addition to dishes, but also a valuable natural product that helps maintain overall human health and well—being.

Sesame oil contains a set of fatty acids such as unsaturated linoleic and oleic, saturated stearic and palmitic. However, the main value is the high percentage of antioxidants, such as:

phytosterols, tocopherols, polyphenols.

These substances have antioxidant properties, protecting the skin from the effects of free radicals and slowing down the aging process. Sesame also has a natural sun protection factor (about 6). All these facts make the oil an excellent component for sunscreen and daytime formulations. The oil contains unique components that are not found in any other oil:

sesamol (belongs to the class of lignans and complements the antioxidant effect of vitamin E), sesamine, sesamoline. The oil has a characteristic yellow color and has an oily neutral aroma.

Classification by cleaning method:

Refined sesame oil undergoes a process of purification and deodorization, which gives it a lighter color and a neutral taste. This type of oil is often chosen by those who appreciate stability and a less pronounced flavor.
Unrefined sesame oil obtained by cold pressing retains its original character, with a richer aroma and deeper color. This sesame oil contains more natural antioxidants and has great health benefits.
Raw butter is not used in cosmetics because of the high risk of rapid spoilage.
It should be noted that sometimes oil can be obtained by hot pressing, this is usually done in order to increase oil yield.

Cosmetic properties. The healthy properties and uses of sesame oil.

Sesame oil has a beneficial effect on the skin, helping to maintain its firmness and elasticity. The light texture makes it ideal for massage.

Sesame oil is most often found in the care of dry, dehydrated skin. At the same time, due to its light texture and fast absorption, it can become the basis for formulations for problem skin. The anti-inflammatory effect is possible due to lignans, and resistance to its own oxidation. As well as increased antioxidant support thanks to sesamol, an antioxidant that is several times more active than vitamin E. But here these antioxidants do not conflict, but complement each other. Therefore, the oil can be easily used in tanning products.

Sesame oil can be used in its pure form to care for the skin of the face and lips. It has a light texture that is quickly absorbed, providing the skin with vitamins and hydration. It is important to note that sesame oil has a low comedogenicity, which makes it suitable for problem skin. You can try to adapt any recipe you like by replacing part of it with sesame seeds.

How to store sesame oil after opening? The healthy properties and uses of sesame oil.

The total shelf life of sesame seed oil is 12 months, but the period after opening is shortened, as the oil begins to come into contact with air oxygen and sunlight. Therefore, the bottle, like any other open oils, should be stored in a dark, cool place to avoid rapid spoilage.
It is also recommended to wipe the neck of the bottle after each application, and if there is a significant amount of used oil, pour it into a smaller bottle to slow down the oxidation process. Remember, expired oil cannot be used.
